My Name is Nona

My mother named me after St. Raymond Nonnatus, the patron saint of childbirth, midwives, children, pregnant women, and priests who want to protect the secrecy of confession. She must have spurred my future career of helping women during their crucial moment of motherhood.

In Malay, Nona means woman and in the olden days women commonly had it prefixed to their names, e.g.Nona Ahayan, Nona Balkis, etc. In Roman mythology, Nona, is one of the three personifications of destiny, whose name means "ninth" and was called upon by pregnant women in their ninth month when the child was due to be born.

In Italian, Nonna means grandmother while in Greek, she is the Fate who spins the thread of life. In Sri Lanka, Nona means a rich lady! In the African-Hausa language, Nona means breastmilk!

I'm glad I'm a woman!
