Annually, Synchronized Breastfeeding Worldwide generates tremendous media coverage for breastfeeding (the Philippine events were covered nationwide and in more than 100 websites of TV and newspapers worldwide!) Here are some suggestions on how to increase media visibility:
- There can be an official launch of the event at the national level to announce the date of the event and invite mothers and volunteers to participate. During the launch, mothers who will participate can be given flowers, the golden bow, etc. or they can provide photo opportunities to the media by breastfeeding simultaneously.
- After the launching, organizers can go on organizational and media tours to invite mothers and volunteers to join.
- Organizers can create stickers of the international breastfeeding icon and provide photo opportunities to the media by putting these stickers to designated sites of the event.
- Breastfeeding advocates can convince government agencies/organizations whose mandate is seemingly remote from the breastfeeding advocacy to participate e.g. education, social welfare, environment, military, religious groups or churches. The partnership can be formalized by a Memorandum of Agreement (MOA) signing which the public relations department of the agency can play up.
- The media will be very interested on the statistics of the event. There can be a central person per country where everybody can send information on the number of participants to a mobile phone. (Please read the Guidelines for the Site Organizer) whom the media can immediately contact.
